Espanola Suites Lets South Beach Travelers

As a longtime Miami Beach resident I have frequent visitors and guests and someone is always asking me for a recommendation on where to eat, shop, and of course where to stay. If you are a tourist traveling to South Beach for vacation or a local seeking a relaxing ‘staycation’ you have many options for accommodations. Miami has something for every budget and every lifestyle ranging from luxury high-rise hotel/residences to large all-inclusive resorts to quaint Art Deco style boutique hotels. Each one targeting and serving a unique audience with a specific set of requirements that will make their time away from home complete. One of my favorite places to send out-of-towners who will be in South Beach for more than a few days is Espanola Way Suites. This to me is one of the best ‘live like a local’ experiences South Beach has to offer.

Espanola Way Suites is located off the ‘strip’ in a lively, but intimate Spanish Mediterranean style village on Espanola Way and Washington Ave. From your balcony you can look down on the unique retail shops, restaurants and intimate cafes. It has been popular with the “bohemian” culture for many years because of the several artist lofts, design studios, theater productions and street performers that call the area home.

The area is historical, but the rooms are updated and modern. The furnished suites are spacious and fully equipped with everything you need for an extended vacation. Full kitchens heat up leftovers from dining out and all the tools if you decide to head to a local grocery store to shop and prepare your own meals.

You never have to worry about feeling crowded, there are only 12 suites in the hotel, ten of them are 1 Bedrooms and two 2 Bedrooms, giving it a real community feeling. The staff is very personable. They pay unique attention to your needs and you are treated like a resident, and not just as an overnight guest. You can truly live amongst the locals and feel a part of the vibrant Espanola community.

The beach is three blocks away and the shopping and dining of Lincoln Road is within steps. If you want to do more than relax you don’t have to go far. Each Saturday night people are literally dancing in the streets of Espanola to the music of local salsa bands. The nightclubs of Washington Ave. are nearby but not too close to that you will be disturbed by the crowds.

The Essential Beach Travel

Travel is said to be one of those things which helps you to grow as a person. It enhances your perception of things and helps you see the wonder and beauty of the world that you live in. It also helps to broaden your cultural perspective and see how different parts of the world or even your own country live and exist with the environment in which they live. On a lighter note however, travel also relaxes the mind and can help you jump back after months and years of tiring work.

Among the many places that people love to travel to is the beach. A trip to the beach can give you valuable time to relax and unwind while at the same time help expose you to an environment that can be different from the fast paced hub of the city.

The first rule of a worry-free trip is making sure that you have good accommodations. It is especially helpful to book your room months in advance and if possible put a down payment on the room so that you don’t have to worry about your reservations going to someone else. Unfortunately, although a lot of flights are on time, you really can’t prepare enough for the weather and sometimes, Mother Nature just does not want to cooperate with your vacation plans. If your flight ends up being cancelled or delayed the resort you have booked at may give your room to someone else when you don’t show up on time. On a similar note, you should also make sure you take down their number so you can update them in case of delays.

The second important item to remember is to pack properly. Always pack light when you are traveling to the beach. Although you may be tempted to head to the beach with a whole wardrobe of clothes remember that you are unlikely to need a trunk full of jeans and formal wear. Bring light clothes. Even beach pants are typically thin and airy because the warm weather is best enjoyed with that type of clothing. Bring clothes that won’t weigh you down and bring an ample amount of swimwear with you. You can always get your hotel to do laundry for you so don’t overdo the packing. It also helps to bring some essentials such as sun block, toiletries and an extra towel. Some hotels charge for dirty towels and you may need some extra toiletries given that you are probably going to be doing a lot of swimming.

Australian Beach Travel

Our country is famous for its beaches, some of the most beautiful in the world, remote, pristine and bathed in sunshine!

But there are pros and cons to a lazy day on the coast of Australia and there are many things you’ll need to be aware of as a first timer or visitor. Below we’ve put together a list of the biggest and most important rules to follow, ensuring your Australian beach outing is one to remember, for good reasons, and not bad ones.

* You WILL need sunscreen. As great as it looks to have a dark tan these days, 1400 people die each year from sun cancers in Australia and 8,800 are diagnosed with melanomas. A layer of 30+ sunscreen is both smart and necessary, not to mention an easy way to stay sun cancer free. Take a look around, all of the locals are slathering some on, you should too.

* Don’t forget a hat and a shirt to put on, for when the sun is out in force and your shoulders need a break. The hottest time in the day during an Australian summer in between 10am and 3pm, keep this in mind during outdoor activities.

* Keep up your water intake. In summer it is easier to become dehydrated, especially on the beach, so keep a bottle of water handy.

* Swim between the flags. Australian beaches have sections of beach that are patrolled by highly trained lifeguards, these sections are easily marked by bright yellow and red flags. In this area, the lifeguards are able to quickly spot you if you are in danger, and come to your rescue. Outside of these flagged areas you run the risk of not being seen by someone and being carried further out into the ocean by rips.

* Decide how long you’ll stay in the surf and how high the waves should get before going in shore. It sounds small, but it’s easy to get into big trouble if the waves are too high or rough for you. The surf is no place to be a cowboy! If you start to feel uneasy where you are, that’s a major sign that you’re already in too deep.

* By aware of scary things at the beach. This can mean lots of things, rocks under the water, jelly fish, sharks, rips in the tide or even people on the shore who might like the look of your belongings and want to steal something of value while you swim 20 metres away. You have to take care of yourself and be aware of what’s going on around you!

If you find yourself in trouble, there are a few easy things to remember that might save your life.

* If you get caught in a rip; wave your arms to attract attention from others around you (and the lifeguards). If you are too far out and are struggling, it’s best to swim parallel to the shore along with the rip. This way, you won’t exhaust yourself and eventually the rip will break and you can swim to the shore. The important thing is not to swim against the current.

* Listen to lifeguards. If they say a particular area is dangerous, it is. You might think otherwise, but they have your safety in mind. Also, if a lifeguard comes to help you, follow their directions.
